Lenovo Yoga Keyboard Replacement Guide
Most Yoga convertibles use a palmrest-integrated keyboard: you work from inside the machine, and on many models the keyboard is plastic-welded into the top case - which makes this the most involved swap in the Lenovo range. Read the whole guide before starting; if your keyboard is welded, a complete palmrest assembly is often the smarter part to buy.
Watch: Yoga 530 full keyboard replacement
A complete strip-down and keyboard replacement on a Yoga 530 (Mad About Tutorials). Note the chapter flow - battery out, everything removed, keyboard out, new keyboard's cable connected during reassembly. The welded fixing points are why this job takes longer than a ThinkPad swap.
Before you start
- Shut down, unplug, and plan the workspace: this job removes almost everything inside the laptop. Photograph each stage and keep screws grouped by stage.
- Work out which part you actually need before ordering: keyboard only (screwed fixing), or the palmrest (top case) assembly (welded fixing). Flip your Yoga over and check the part number on the keyboard label once it is out, or ask us with your exact model - see also how to find your keyboard part number.
- Tools: small Phillips and Torx drivers (Yoga models mix both), plastic spudger, tweezers.
Steps
- Remove the bottom cover screws and pry the cover open around the seam.
- Disconnect the battery first - before any other connector.
- Remove the parts that sit over the keyboard and its cable, in the order your photos will reverse later: typically battery, speakers, and on some models the mainboard itself.
- Release the keyboard ribbon cable at its ZIF socket: flip the locking flap up, slide the cable out squarely.
- Free the keyboard: screwed models come out screw by screw. Welded models need the plastic rivets dealt with - the slow, risky part of this job, and the reason a palmrest assembly (keyboard pre-fitted) is often the better buy.
- Fit the replacement, reconnect its cable (watch the video's reassembly section: the cable fold matters), reconnect the battery temporarily, and test every key before the bottom cover goes back.
- Reassemble in reverse order.

Only one key broken?
Yoga keycaps and hinges can be replaced individually - our own video shows the job on the ThinkPad Yoga 260 / 370 / X380 Yoga family:
Keycap and hinge kits are coming to our keycaps section; meanwhile ask us about single keys for your model.
