Samsung Galaxy Book Keyboard Replacement Guide

Galaxy Book keyboards are serviced from inside the machine: bottom cover off, battery disconnected first, then the keyboard lifts out of the top case. The job is straightforward on most models, but the model code matters more than the family name - a Galaxy Book Flex Alpha NP730QCJ and a NP730QDA take different keyboards, so match by exact model and part number before ordering.

Watch: Galaxy Book Flex Alpha full keyboard replacement

A complete replacement on a Galaxy Book Flex Alpha (AstroShootingStars): battery removal, the old keyboard lifted out with its backlight plate handled separately, then the new keyboard seated and its ribbon cable reconnected. Watch the reassembly section closely - the cable seating is the step that decides whether every key works first time.

Before you start

  • Shut down, unplug, and photograph each stage. Galaxy Book models mix screw types and lengths, so keep screws grouped by stage.
  • Confirm the exact model code (for example NP730QCJ vs NP730QDA on the Flex Alpha) and, wherever possible, the part number on your old keyboard's label - see how to find your keyboard part number. The same family name covers several different keyboards, and layout and backlight also vary.
  • Tools: small Phillips driver, plastic spudger, tweezers. Work on a clean, non-slip surface - these are thin machines and the bottom cover flexes.

Steps

  1. Remove the bottom cover screws and lift the cover away, working around the seam with a plastic tool.
  2. Disconnect the battery first - before touching any other connector.
  3. Free the keyboard ribbon cable at its connector: release the locking flap, slide the cable out squarely, and note its fold and routing.
  4. Lift the old keyboard out of the top case, dealing with the backlight plate as the video shows - keep it with the old keyboard until you know whether your replacement needs it transferred.
  5. Seat the replacement keyboard, reconnect its ribbon cable (fully inserted, locking flap closed), reconnect the battery temporarily, and test every key before the bottom cover goes back.
  6. Reassemble in reverse order.

A different route on some Galaxy Book models: the palmrest assembly

On some Galaxy Book models, notably the Galaxy Book 3 Pro, the keyboard is so tightly integrated into the top case that workshops swap the whole palmrest assembly instead, moving the mainboard across. The video below shows that assembly route - it is a bigger job than a keyboard-only swap, and it is only the right choice if a keyboard-only part is not available for your exact model:

Note: this is a palmrest-assembly replacement with a mainboard transfer, not a keyboard-only swap - do not follow it expecting a standalone keyboard to come out on its own.
